Most packs already run attendance through a QR code that opens a form. Carabiner keeps that habit and fixes what the form gets wrong: the date is typed by hand, siblings need separate entries, and the result lands in a sheet that nothing else can use.
How it will work
- One pack-wide QR code. Print it once. It opens a public check-in page that needs no account.
- Check in the whole household. Type a last name, pick your family, see every scout and adult in it, tick who is here, submit. Two siblings in two different dens from one scan.
- The time comes from the server. Never a typed date, so attendance for a Tuesday meeting is stamped Tuesday.
- Late arrivals check in the same way. No cutoff, no penalty screen.
- Leaders can take roll instead. A den list with All Present and All Absent, for the nights nobody wants to fish for a phone.
- Walk-ins and visitors are captured. A leader adds them by name and resolves them later. There is no invite-first rule, ever.
- Built for a bad connection. The page is small, retries on its own, and queues the check-in locally if the signal drops, then posts when it returns.
Why it matters
Check-in is where advancement starts. When the den leader has logged what the meeting covered, every scout who checked in gets a proposed completion for each requirement of their rank. That is the part no other pack tool does; see Sessions and requirements.
If there is no session logged for today, the page says so and offers to tell a leader, so a missing session log surfaces immediately instead of losing the night’s attendance.
